Angel Van Wagenen, Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Van Wagenen earned a Doctor of Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University, an APA accredited program. She also received a Master’s degree in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University. Dr. Van Wagenen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Marist College in New York State. She is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Dr. Van Wagenen has experience working with individuals and groups in a variety of clinical settings, including university counseling centers, community mental health centers and private practices. Additionally, she has experience conducting neuropsychiatric research.

Dr. Van Wagenen provides a warm, open and collaborative space for her clients to reflect, explore and gain insight. She works with individuals and couples to identify tools they can use to achieve their personal and psychological goals. Dr. Van Wagenen utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, which incorporates elements from Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT),  and Person-Centered principles.

Dr. Van Wagenen has extensive experience and interest in working with clients from diverse backgrounds and identities. Additionally, she supports clients and provides them with tools to: navigate through family of origin concerns, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, process grief and loss and trauma, gain understanding about all forms of identity concerns/questions, process life transitions, enhance self-esteem/self-confidence, and process relationship issues/challenges.

Dr. Van Wagenen believes in the importance of continuing education. Most recently she completed the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy Level 1 training as well as training’s on: relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, and other related mood challenges.
