Dr. Greg McCathren

Greg McCathren, Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. McCathren earned a Doctorate and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) in Arlington, Virginia; an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from American University in Washington, DC.

Dr. McCathren has more than six years of clinical experience. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings including: public and charter schools, a residential treatment center, and a community mental health center. Dr. McCathren has worked across the lifespan with children and adolescents, their families, and adults with a variety of clinical concerns. He completed an APA accredited internship at a community mental health center and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at multiple DC public schools where he provided developmentally-based therapy to middle and high school students.

Dr. McCathren works with individuals, groups, and couples. He specializes in treating adolescents and adults exhibiting depression, anxiety, and trauma. Dr. McCathren tailors therapy to each client’s needs by utilizing a client-centered approach. He blends cognitive-behavior therapy techniques and other skills-based approaches to examine one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help clients set realistic future goals. In couples counseling, Dr. McCathren ascribes to the Gottman Method of Couples therapy and helps couples enhance their friendship, trust, communication and boundaries in order to strengthen their relationship.
