Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Alexcia Kilgore is a licensed psychologist who works with adults navigating a wide range of life experiences, from anxiety and depression to relationship challenges, identity exploration, trauma, and major life transitions. She brings warmth, curiosity, and genuine compassion to her work and strives to create a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, exploring difficult experiences, and working toward meaningful change.
Dr. Kilgore has experience working with adults across a variety of backgrounds, identities, and stages of life. She has provided therapy in college counseling centers, private practice, and outpatient Veterans Affairs (VA) settings. Her clinical interests include anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, sex and intimacy, identity development, trauma, and life transitions.
Dr. Kilgore believes that therapy is most helpful when clients feel truly understood and supported. Her style is warm, approachable, exploratory, and collaborative. Rather than simply focusing on symptoms, she helps clients become more curious about themselves—developing greater insight into their emotions, relationships, patterns, and past experiences and how these may be influencing their lives today. She also helps clients recognize and build upon the strengths they already possess.
Drawing from Object Relations theory, multicultural psychology, and strengths-based approaches, Dr. Kilgore tailors therapy to each client’s unique experiences, identities, and goals. She values creating an affirming environment where clients can deepen their emotional awareness, better understand themselves and their relationships, and develop new ways of navigating life’s challenges.
Dr. Kilgore earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Howard University, an APA-accredited doctoral program. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services and her postdoctoral training in private practice in Washington, DC. She also holds a Master’s degree in Cognitive and Social Processes from Ball State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marquette University. Dr. Kilgore is licensed as a psychologist in Virginia.
