Dr. Godwin earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited program at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. She also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Atlanta, where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish.

Dr. Godwin completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Prince William Family Counseling. During her internship, Dr. Godwin worked with a diverse population of adults and adolescents, and provided individual, group, and couples psychotherapy, as well as administered neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. Additionally, Dr. Godwin has completed clinical rotations in a variety of settings including: Dominion Center for Behavioral Health Services, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, and Atlantic Counseling Group.

Dr. Godwin is collaborative in her therapy work with clients and teaches them valuable skills for positive change. Dr. Godwin integrates strategies from a variety of evidence-based therapy modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) treatment approaches. In her work with couples, Dr. Godwin utilizes the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and has completed the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy (GMCT) Level I training.

Her therapy specialties include: depression, anger management, life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, trauma, sexuality/identity questions, and work/life balance concerns or issues affecting one’s quality of life.

As Director of Testing Services at MPS, Dr. Godwin coordinates the department and ensures the quality of psychological evaluation and testing services. Dr. Godwin prioritizes culturally sensitive and empirically supported testing methods. Her testing specialties include: Adult ADHD, Adult specific learning concerns, depression, and personality profiles.
