Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Godwin earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited program at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. She also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Atlanta, where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish.
Dr. Godwin completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Prince William Family Counseling. During her internship, Dr. Godwin worked with a diverse population of adults and adolescents, and provided individual, group, and couples psychotherapy, as well as administered neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. Additionally, Dr. Godwin has completed clinical rotations in a variety of settings including: Dominion Center for Behavioral Health Services, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, and Atlantic Counseling Group.
Dr. Godwin is collaborative and direct in her therapy work with clients, with an empathic approach focused on personal accountability for clients ready to gain insight and enact change in their lives. Dr. Godwin integrates strategies from a variety of evidence-based therapy modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy approaches.
Dr. Godwin specializes in working with adults experiencing depression, anger management challenges, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, sexuality and identity questions, and work–life balance concerns that impact overall quality of life.
As the Director of Testing Services at Metropolitan Psychological Services (MPS), Dr. Godwin oversees the department and ensures the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive psychological evaluations. She is committed to using culturally responsive and evidence-based assessment methods. Her areas of expertise include mood, anxiety, personality, and learning assessments, with a particular focus on adult ADHD and high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations. Dr. Godwin is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), Section IX (Assessment Psychology).
